Steven Y. Rim

Dr. Rim studied Electronics at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea. After graduating his undergaduate program in 1982 with BE, Dr. Rim went to the University of Texas at Austin and got his MS and Ph.D in Computer Architecture. He started his professional career at IBM in Austin, Tx, and designed the world-first 64-bit Microprocessor for IBM RIOS workstations. In 1998, he joined Cisco as a engineering manager, and delivered the first layer 3 packet processor in Cisco. This product was applied in CAT 6K switch systems and became the most successful product in Cisco history. He received the Pioneer Award from Cisco CEO for his achievement. He also worked on Cisco HFR system as a chief architect. HFR was later released to the market as CRS-1. He also served as the Gemeral Manager in Korea for Strategic Alliance for S+CC business.
In 2004, Dr. Rim joined Samsung Electronics as a Vice President. He led the Product Planning group in Strategic Marketing Team for WiMAX and WCDMA product lines. After long career in IT industry, Dr. Rim served one year at Myungji University as a professor before he became the Future Internet PM in KCC.

Title: Smart Internet, Phase 1 of Korean Future Internet

Abstract:
Future Internet is the concept of the new internet architecture which resolves the existing issues in the current internet. As internet expands its application space, it is expected to have more than one architectural solutions in the Future Internet. Smart Internet is the Future Internet Architecture designed to accommodate multi-displined network, to allow the implementation of fairness policy among users as well as applications, to provide openness for service eco-system and to protect users from various cyber attacts. To ignite the start of buildin the Future Internet of Korea, KCC not only defined R&D 2.0 to develop applicable key technologies for the Smart Internet but also worked on the initiatives for Smart Internet deployment. This presentation discusses the R&D 2.0 and the other programs to implment the Smart Internet.
